How ESPN’s ‘Soccer Saturday’ was the most watched program of 2016

Sports fans around the world have been clamoring for more than a decade to see the biggest football games of the year.

But the reality of watching soccer has been the opposite.

As we head into the year, we’ve been inundated with soccer games across all the major U.S. sports networks and in the biggest TV markets in Canada and Mexico.

So why has the sport never really caught on?

It is also possible that the fans are attracted to the sport because it is the closest thing to the NFL that they have.
