‘It was an assault’: Victim of ‘punch in the gut’ assault says no one called 911

A man was punched in the head by an alleged bully and his friends and family members called 911 in hopes that someone would come and help.

A video posted online Friday shows a young man being punched in a gym parking lot outside of downtown Austin.

It begins with the victim being punched repeatedly in the face and head by the bully.

The video then cuts to a black male punching the victim multiple times.

The victim was taken to the hospital and later released.

Police say the victim told them he was beaten with a metal rod.

Police believe he was hit multiple times with a brick.

Witnesses told ABC News they heard screams and the sound of someone screaming for help.

A witness told ABC affiliate KVUE the victim had to be taken to an area hospital.

The Austin Police Department is investigating the incident and a video is being posted to social media.

Police released this statement to ABC News: “We are actively working with our community to determine the facts surrounding this attack.

We are also working with the local authorities and the victim to provide any assistance necessary to bring justice to the man and his family.”
