Italia’s top court on Thursday ruled that the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich could not be played because of the Zika-linked birth defect.
The ruling comes days after Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were both ordered to play in the Europa League final on Saturday.
It comes as the world’s top soccer league has been ordered to cancel its first-round group stage match against Barcelona due to a new Zika virus.
In the ruling, the Constitutional Court found that Madrid and the rest of the participating teams could not play in that match because of Zika-related complications.
The court said that the Spanish government has to decide if the two teams would still be playing.
The two teams are due to play a second-round match on Saturday and a third-round tie on Sunday.
